| Search The companies' search has been divided in three phases.
The search based on personal data considers the possibility to fill in six different fields: firm name, contact name, town, turnover range, employees' class, juridical nature. The selection form contains three different fields: district, field of activity, description. Clicking on the summary arrow of the activity field cell you will see the ISTAT classification of economic activities; this list is still at a division level, as it is considered a satisfactory compromise between a good level of synthesis and a sufficient degree of analysis in the description of the different economic activities. The last search field is the description one: it refers to a generic description made by the entrepreneur about its own firm and activity; it is sufficient o type a word or a part of it in order to select all the companies whose description - presentation contains this string of characters.
This kind of selection offers the possibility to search the companies in the database on the basis of the product they manufacture or commercialize. Besides the usual criterion of the district which the firm belongs to, you can find other seven fields of selection.. The first one (selection based on S.I.C. codification) is relative to the type of product based on the classification of the Standard Industrial Codification: it proposes a grouping relative to the first two digits. As a consequence, using this criterion, it is necessary to select the category containing the product you are looking for: ex. If you are interested in the footwear sector, you will have to digit "31 Leather And Leather Products". The following criterion, instead, tries to locate the firm on the basis of the product description, which is contained in the relative S.I.C. description or in the personal description of the product, or in the general description of the firm. It is also possible to carry out more complex searches through the usual Boolean operators of interconnection between the strings of characters typed (AND - OR). A further criterion is based on the kind of activity connected to the chosen product (manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, etc.). The last criterion but one refers to the kind of relationship with foreign countries which has to be considered in connection with the chosen product (importer, exporter, both of them). Finally, the last criterion is connected to the Country/ies of reference for that particular kind of product, towards which the firm is exporter or importer. The fields inserted in every selection form are linked by Boolean operators AND. This means that only the firms that contemporarily respect all the stated criteria will be selected. The non-statement of a field (leaving the indication insignificant) means the intention to leave it out of the search criteria.

| After having started the search, pushing the button send request from anyone of the aforesaid modalities, the list of companies corresponding to the selected criteria will appear; for each enterprise only some basic descriptive data are presented. In order to have more detailed information about each company you have to click on the card button. Both from the list of the selected companies and from the detail form you can reach, if existing, both the company's web site (if the name of the firm is underlined and clickable) and the electronic mail box (if there is the image with the symbol @). |

"Istat activities" and "Sic" codes In order to facilitate the research by activities and by products you can read the Istat Code activity list and the S.I.C. (Standard Industrial Codes) product list, which are beeing used to store the products and the activities information in this database. You can also download the tables and view them from your local PC, without an Internet connection. In that case you need to download the file CODICIEN.zip which contains the files ISTATACTIVITIES.zip and SICPRODUCTS.zip. You have to Unzip the files in the same directory, and open the documents ELENCOENATTIVITA.xml or ELENCOENPRODOTTI.xml with the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 browser.
